The Mother’s Day gift she really wants is a hug (and you can keep the chocolates and flowers)

What do mums want most on Mother’s Day? If you were thinking along the lines of something lavish and expensive, think again. Flowers? No. Chocolates? Certainly not. According to a DotComGiftShop survey of online shoppers, what mothers desire most on their special day is… a simple hug!

Mothers DAy hug

Exactly half of mothers polled specified a cuddle as their number-one choice for a Mother’s Day gift, shunning more materialistic alternatives. A personally chosen, unusual gift proved the second most desirable Mother’s Day present (45%). Surprisingly, the tried and tested (although admittedly unimaginative) box of chocolates came bottom of the list, garnering a measly 3% of votes, while the old Mother’s Day staple of flowers received only 20%.

Although Mother’s Day is a traditionally busy time for restaurants, more mums chose a home-made dinner (26%) than a meal out (19%) as their most favoured gift. Other simple and inexpensive gestures proved even more popular, such as a card (40%) and lots of attention (34%).

So the most reliable conclusion that can be drawn from the DotComGiftShop survey is that it really is the thought that counts when it comes to Mother’s Day gifts!
