Mothers Day Facts: Mothers Day or Mothering Sunday is always on the fourth Sunday of lent. It is an occassion where children show their love and respect towards their mother, usually symbolised with a card and a gift.

Although the date of Mothers Day is closely tied to Christianity, the religious meaning of the event has been largely lost over time.

However, despite the differing views about the origins of Mothers Day, it is widely acknowledged that it began sometime during the sixteenth century, when people would return to their 'mother church' for a special service to mark the occasion.

The day would traditionally have been spent with the family and it is believed that this evolved over time into the Mothers Day that we celebrate today.
