Everybody loves a good sale, but sometimes the things you can buy are far from expected. From a bag of dirt to the meaning of life, just check out these bizarre items that have gone up for sale!

The meaning of life: £2
Someone claiming to have all the answers, to life the universe and everything, put them up for sale. Want to know what they are? You'll have to shell out £2.

Autographed air guitar: £10
Impossible to scratch, impossible to break, impossible to see - whoever came up with this idea has more than a spark of entrepreneurial genius.

Dirt: £10.50
Plenty of sellers on the internet will sell you a bag of dirt for a song. The reason? It comes from a gold mine and might, might, contain some of the good stuff.

Queue sitter: £16.50/hour
We Brits might love queueing, but it's the Americans who have turned it into a paying job. For a price, you could get someone else to wait in the cold for you, for the latest gadget or bestselling book!

A calendar from 2002: £17
Nostalgia is a powerful force, and a profitable one too. After all, who wouldn't want to buy an out-of-date calendar for more than the original price?

A Brussels sprout: £99.50
One man tried his luck by selling a Brussels sprout that he had cooked for Christmas Day. Surprisingly, the sale took off and the proceeds went to charity.

Water: £300
In 1977 Elvis Presley sipped some water at a concert. Fast forward a few years and you could find that same water for sale online, and it didn't go cheap.

A life: £254,000
Ian Usher put his whole life on sale in 2008. In the end he sold his house, all his belongings, a trial at his job, and introductions to his friends!

The Hollywood sign: £298,000
The original Hollywood sign went up in the 1920s and came down in the 1970s. Each of the letters were sold at a party hosted by Hugh Hefner, and one of them went to rock star Alice Cooper!

Iceland: £11.4 million
That's the country, not the supermarket. During Iceland's economic crisis, Iceland ended up for sale online and fetched an enormous price, even though Björk was officially not included.
