Fathers Day in UK, is celebrated on the third Sunday of June, so Fathers Day 2012 is on Sunday 17th June.
We're not the only country to celebrate Father's Day on that particular day. In fact, 51 other countries spread out all around the world, use the same day in the calendar to pay tribute to their fathers.
March 19th is the most popular fixed date in the global calendar to celebrate Father's Day, with 8 countries including Spain, Italy and Portugal observing the occasion on that specific day each year.
In Australasia, Father's Day is on the first Sunday in September with New Zealand, Australia, Fiji and Papua New Guinea all recognising the occasion.
In Scandanavian countries such as Norway, Sweden and Finland, Father's Day is the second Sunday in November.
Bulgaria celebrate the occasion on Boxing Day, toasting their fathers on December 26th each year.
In South Korea, there is no Mother's Day or Father's Day. They simply celebrate 'Parent's Day' on May 8th.

We love biscuits with our tea. In fact, we love biscuits full stop. So we’ve gone searching for baking bloggers whose biscuits are simply divine, and you can check out our favourites below. Now, time to put the kettle on...
At ‘A Merrier World’ Kate shares her thoughts on food and family. Her lovely recipes and funny descriptions make for a delightful read and, of course, the biscuits she makes are irresistible. Why not try out her Jubilee Nutella cookies? Not the most obvious choice for a royal snack, but any excuse to make biscuits this good is fine with us! Pull up a chair and have a read - this blog certainly makes for a merrier world.
This is the place where self-taught cake decorator, Emma, blogs about her baking adventures and shares photos of her brilliant creations. Raised in a traditional Jewish household, Emma grew up helping her mother in the kitchen (and licking the spoon, of course!). Check out her biscuit recipes for some brilliant ideas. Her chocolate-dipped Viennese biscuits look like little swirls of heaven!
Shelley runs her baking company from her home in the Midlands. She specialises in stunningly decorated cupcakes and biscuits, and personalises her baked delights according to the occasion. Are you getting married this year? Then you won’t be able to resist her delightful wedding dress biscuits! But be careful, they’re so pretty they may put your real wedding dress to shame...
‘Making life sweeter’ - that’s the tagline of Claire’s baking blog, and we think she’s doing a brilliant job! There are plenty of beautifully decorated biscuits to feast your eyes on here. Our favourites are the the Easter bonnet biscuits - vanilla sable biscuits topped with a marshmallow and icing. Simply inspired! We’re feeling hungry just looking at them.
Ali bakes and makes at home in Scotland, for her two boys and her husband, Mr Biscuit. As well as crafting pretty things, she makes lots of delicious treats to eat including, of course, yummy biscuits. The heart shaped biscuits she made for her friend are a vision in pink, and the daffodil biscuits are simply adorable. Too pretty to dunk in your tea, these treats are little works of art!
This is a cookery blog with a difference. Pink cupcakes aren’t Libby’s style - she has a passion for rock and retro, and she indulges it through her baking. Have you ever seen an edible plectrum before? Her peanut butter plectrum biscuits are such a brilliant idea, and they look great. For baking with a rock and roll twist, London Baking is calling!
If you know of any other biscuit-themed blogs we should add to our list, please don't hesitate to contact the blogging team at dotcomgiftshopblog[@]gmail.com.
And don't forget, for a fantastic range of funky biscuit tins, make sure you check out our excellent collection.
For the Diamond Jubilee, the Queen will attend a royal lunch hosted by the Livery, with approximately 700 guests. As the grand occasion draws nearer you may be wondering how to celebrate at home (if, like us, your invitation to the Livery lunch seems to have been lost in the post).
Fortunately everyone can enjoy a regal repast by throwing a Diamond Jubilee afternoon tea party. Read on for our tips about hosting a party so elegant, even the Queen will be disappointed she wasn’t there.
At a normal royal garden party it’s not unusual for 20,000 sandwiches, 20,000 cake slices and 27,000 cups of tea to be served. If you feel able to cater on this scale, good luck! We recommend inviting up to eight people to your party, to create a cosy and informal atmosphere.
Remember to send your invitations a week or two in advance, especially if you decide to write them by hand - after all, receiving an invitation through the post gives a real sense of occasion. We think pretty pastels are just the thing, so check out our floral folk stationery set.
When the day arrives you need to decide where to hold your party. If you choose to stay indoors (or the weather chooses for you) you can make an immediate impression on your guests with some charming household decorations, like these lovely Union Jack cushion covers.
With a little luck the Great British summer will be in full swing, and you can take your tea outside - so hang up some paper chains or Union Jack bunting to create a festive mood.
The heart of your tea party will be the table, so this is the perfect time to get out your best crockery. Our Regency range will make your table look divine, or if that isn’t your style there’s a great selection of summery botanical plates, cups and dishes to choose from.
Try to think of everything your guests will need, so that you will not need to leave the table when the party is in full swing. Each person will require a cup and saucer, a teaspoon, a tea plate, cutlery and a napkin.
Without a doubt the most important element of the party is the tea, so choose loose tea leaves that you can brew in front of your guests. Consider Earl Grey, green tea, black tea and oolong, and don’t forget to lay the table with a sugar bowl, milk jug and lemon slices, so each person can flavour their tea as they wish.
Making the tea at the table will add a touch of ceremony to the occasion, and who does ceremony better than royalty? You can really impress your guests by making the tea in this beautiful rose teapot. If you use a tea strainer, have a dish nearby for the used tea leaves.
Be sure to offer a selection of both sweet and savoury finger foods - put them on the table so that everybody can help themselves. Some teatime favourites are sandwiches filled with cucumber, egg, chicken or salmon, scones with cream and jam, and a variety of cakes. A cake slice and cake forks will really come in handy.
Serve up your snacks in true regal style, with one of our cake stands. To complete your Regency table, there’s our three tier cake stand or, if you feel like really splashing out, make your centrepiece this stunning birdcage cloche stand.
If you’re lucky enough to be outside, you can while away the afternoon with a game of garden croquet. And for a right royal end to the event, why not play the National Anthem?
DotComGiftShop wishes you a very happy tea party!
Father’s Day isn’t far away (17th June), and as we did last year, we're celebrating by finding some fantastic fathers blogs.
So here are some more of our favourites - check them out for great parenting tips, recipe ideas and hilarious anecdotes. Here come the dads!
Who is smarter - your dog or your toddler? The answer may surprise you! This brilliantly funny blog follows Daddy Dazed and his ‘adventures in father-land’. A father for the first time following IVF, he has a refreshingly frank approach to fatherhood and marriage. He’s thinking about introducing Baby M to the game of golf - at two years old it’s probably about time. Be warned: if you’re reading this blog in public you may find yourself laughing out loud...
When Elliot turned one, his grandmother dug out some old - and rather strange - first birthday cards from the attic: “Little birdies sing and say / Darling you are one today”. In this blog Jonathan writes thoughtful articles about rather more modern parenting issues. Are parents honest about how often their kids watch TV? When should children start learning the alphabet? This is an excellent blog crammed with insightful posts.
DaddyNatal was founded by Dean Beaumont after he became a father for the first time, and realised just how unprepared he had been for the birth of his son. Now Dean offers invaluable advice for fathers-to-be, and allows new and experienced dads to share their tales of fatherhood. In particular, the post about three dads’ stories of premature birth is both moving and full of great advice. An absolute must-read!
With five small stomachs to feed, this dad is kept very busy in the kitchen, whipping up healthy meals and delicious snacks (especially brownies). And he doesn’t do it all himself - the kids are more than happy to help! As well as tempting recipes, there’s also a fascinating section on food history, including wartime food adverts - where else will you see a dancing carrot with top hat and glasses?
Father of two, Tom, has been blogging since the birth of his first son. Now baby boy number two has joined the family and, happily, there’s more to write about than ever. His posts are funny and truthful - he writes about his parenting experiences, from little Dylan’s rather peculiar phobias, to the reason why cotton wool is loathsome. And having seen the adorable photo of Xander, we think all babies should wear bandanas!
First Time Daddy joined the world of blogging to offer his opinions on parenting, and we’re very glad he did. As well as writing about Baby Benjamin as he grows - oh, the joys of teething! - he is also refreshingly honest as he shares his parental worries. But we don’t think he needs to worry too much: Benjamin has already been on his first holiday abroad and the photos prove that he loves to fly!
Have you ever been to a National Trust property where you could jump on the beds? Henry has, and his son Robert had a great time! On this brilliant blog there are great ideas for days out with children, as well as articles pondering the ups and downs of fatherhood. Want inspiration about what to read with your kids? Henry has compiled a wonderful list of books based on recommendations from his blog’s readers.
Chronicling his life as a new dad, David uses his blog to record the important moments in his baby daughter’s life. We love the video of little Olivia crawling - she looks very pleased with herself! This is a lovely blog, following one dad as he embarks on his biggest adventure yet: fatherhood. Oh, and if you’re planning a kitchen renovation, it might be a good idea to check out David’s advice first...
When this father swapped roles with his wife and became the reluctant housedad to three children, he decided to start a blog to chart his experiences as stay-at-home parent and household head chef. He’s not afraid to ask tough questions and his posts are clever and entertaining. Next time chilli-chocolate burritos are on the menu, we’d like an invitation.
Why are second children like ‘The Return of the Jedi’? You’ll have to ask Scottish Blogger Dad - father, bookaholic and self-confessed geek. We love this hilarious dad blogger, especially his ‘Dear Daughter’ posts. This is definitely a blog to watch, particularly if you too harbour a love for gadgetry or, like Scottish Dad’s daughter, Dr Who and Disney Princesses!
Don’t forget to show your dad you care this Father’s Day. Find great gifts for him at DotComGiftShop!
